Teams

Because of today's rapidly changing and global business environment, employers are looking for graduates who have more than technical knowledge; they are looking for graduates who can join the company and immediately function productively. The two programs offered during winter intersession have given previous participants an edge in the hiring process because we teach the skills companies are looking for. We were one of the leaders in integrating teamwork and leadership skills into the educational process.

The three-week program includes instruction in working on high-performance teams. Participants study human behavior using DISC, a tool to foster communication and understanding within the team environment. Participants also learn team dynamics, working better together, and team leadership.

The other piece of the program is project planning and management. Students learn how to conceptualize and develop a project plan beginning with a concise and focused mission, carry that through actual plan implementation, monitor the plan as it unfolds, and plan for the future. Many of the Life Support and Sustainable Living teams have developed corporate-level project plans that have enabled them to successfully carry out their projects.
